Death Valley Excursion
Mark and Richard at our meeting place for our trip to Death Valley 2 hours north from S.D.
Plan is to get close to Andrews Mountain and climb it.
Oops, after trying to drive narrow uphill my tire sidewall got shredded by sharp slates.
Kerry helped me with the tire change and than he hiked up to the top.
So instead of to go to Andrews, Jari and I set up a camp and fire.
Next day (Sunday) we will look for a new tire in Bishop.
Kerry and John P. are cooking steaks.
It is a cold morning our water is frozen.
They did not have a tire for me at Bishop so we have to drive on paved roads only from now on.
No Racetrack dirt road for us. What else can we do?
We are relaxing at hot spring pools near Bishop.
Camping bellow Mt. Whitney.
We made it to Scotty’s Castle in Death Valley. That is an interesting story there.
While camping at Death Valley Mesquite campground there was a group of cyclists and one of them disappeared over night.
I went to look for him, nothing. Rangers were looking, nothing. Military plane, helicopters with night vision, nothing.
Not even search dogs could find him. Weird, he is still missing.
Missing cyclist update
Brief reunion with Kerry and John at very windy Ubehebe crater.
They will continue to the Racetrack and climb Ubehebe Mtn there.
I am at the bottom of the crater.
Smooth marble walls at Mosaic canyon.
On a way back we met a large group of photographers they were all spraying the walls with water to make better pictures.
View from Dante’s point just above Badwater.
I had to climb at least one peak here. So I made it to the top of Coffin Peak, great.
